HO Model Train Dealers in Oregon

Hobby Smith

One of my favorite local model train stores is the Hobby Smith in Portland, Oregon. Ron always has interesting HO scale engines, rolling stock cars, and train layout accessories in his store. The Hobby Smith carries many HO, N, and O-scale model train items in stock. Ron honors all Walthers monthly flyer sale prices. He is always happy to order any item that he doesn't have currently carry in stock. Ron buys used train sets to re-sell and he has some really nice scenery and building kits at the store. One series of detailed finished-lumber loads (manufactured by a local HO train accessories modeler) for lumber transport rail cars are featured only at this store. The Hobby Smith is located in Portland's "Hollywood District" next to I-84. The store address is at 1809 N.E. 39th Avenue, Portland, OR, 97212. The store telephone number is (503) 284-1912. The Hobby Smith's website is located at: www.hobbysmith.com

Mainline Trains

The store was located at 2003 19th Avenue, Forest Grove, OR. The retail store is closed. Mike now sells train supplies only on his Internet website. The Mainline Trains website is located at: mainline-trains.com

The Whistle Stop

The Whistle Stop is another Portland area model trains store that has a complete line of HO trains to sell. They also are a Walthers dealer and feature items on sale in the Walthers monthly flyer. The store has a large stock of HO scale engines and rolling stock cars on hand. Occasionally they feature the sale of custom-made layout buildings and detailed cars from estates or expert model railroad builders that want to liquidate items from home layouts. They are really nice people to deal with for model train components and a good source for accessory items like track parts and lighting kits. They are located just east of I-205 in northeast Portland at 11724 S.E. Division Street, Portland, OR 97266. They are open 10:00AM to 6:00PM Monday through Friday and from 10:00AM to 5:00PM on Saturday. The Whistle Stop also has a great sidewalk "tent sale" combined a special inventory reduction sale with special in-store item discounts several times a year. The Whistle Stop's monthly emailed newsletter also contains a list of most of the model train clubs and swap meet notifications across the western Oregon and southwestern Washington region. (Their store website was not working properly at the time of this posting on 1 May 2011.)

Tammie's Hobbies

This store sells HO train supplies in Beaverton, Oregon. I go there because they stock the largest quantity and variety of model paint supplies in the Portland area. There are flat paint colors in stock at Tammie's that I cannot find anywhere else. I use the flat paint colors for adding realistic color and texture details (like on 40-foot logs, a ship pier, and landscape components for my train layout.) Tammie's carries a very large stock of model train cars and engines and they are a Walthers flyer sale dealer. Special paint additive kits to make cars or buildings look stained, dirty, or rusty can also be purchsed at Tammie's. You can find some interesting HO scale autos in stock like ambulances, container yard equipment, and fire trucks at reduced prices (including a HO scale model Mollala Oregon police car from Busch.) They also specialize in radio-controlled airplanes, cars, and boats. The store is located at 12024 S.W. Canyon Road, Beaverton, OR 97005. Their store telephone number is (503) 644-4335. Unfortunately, their website pages do not really give you a real preview of the expansive supply of HO modeling items that they carry in the store. Tammie's has a website at: TammiesHobbies.com
